The other reason is that Star Wars is just a movie and the Star Destroyer crashes because it is a model controlled by humans. Yes, I know there is another explanation for the large calculated mass of the Death Star. They were also very vulnerable to capital ship and frigate attacks meaning that keeping them away from anything bigger than it is absolutely necessary if you wish them to actually last for a while.An Important Note About Star Wars Physics They may be fairly fast and maneuverable for a ship of it's size but that comes with weaker shielding, less armor, along with a tendency to get themselves destroyed quite easily in larger battles. While these cruisers were very well fitted for combating smaller ships like fighters and bombers, they had little to no affectiveness versus other corvettes and anything classified as a frigate or capital ship. The cruiser can compensate for the lack of fireower by using it's Power to Weapons ability which greatly increases the ships firepower at the expense of engine power and shielding for a short time. Tartan Cruisers are classified as corvettes so while they may be small compared to some other Imperal ships, they can very easily destroy any fighter or bomber squadron with barely a scratch, even against a bomber attack. The Tartan Patrol Cruiser is very much a starship usable for mopping up any fighters or bombers, this in turn means that they come with a decent amount of speed and maneuverability at the expense of firepower and some armor and shielding.
Tartan Patrol Cruisers are one of two corvette class ships that the Empire has, the other being the Broadside Missile Cruiser. Their special ability, Maximum Firepower, allowed the Cruiser to fire at a much higher rate and with more power, at a cost of engine speed and shield strength/regeneration. Although they were fast and well armed for their purpose, in combat against a much larger ship, such as a Mon Calamari Star Cruiser or Alliance Assault Frigate, they were easily dispatched, due to their inferior weapon power, shield strenght, and overall size. Their primary purpose was to take down starfighters and bomber with their numerous laser cannons. Tartan-class patrol cruisers, sometimes called Tartan Patrol Cruisers or just Tartan Cruiser, were corvette crafts used by the Galactic Empire.
